Si el Fausto, tomado en su conjunto (primera y segunda parte), no fuese grande y magnifico, pertenecería a la teratología estética. Su gestación fue lenta; distancia entre la primera y la segunda parte del poema fue inmensa. Goethe lo compara a un capital atesorado durante lustros que, al final de la vida, un anciano se encuentra con él para usarlo y disponerlo. Quizás Goethe dejó pasar demasiados años y oportunidades para decidirse respecto a un gran poema dramático que le sumió en la más completa indecisión. <br/>La segunda parte es una especie de comentario crítico y poético a una inexistente “continuación” del bello e importante drama juvenil que constituye un comentario en clave alegórica, con ribetes de autoconfesión y con transferencias poéticas, muchas de carácter críptico, a todo el bagaje cultural de la literatura occidental. |
