El compendio de pediatría de Nelson proporciona a los estudiantes la información suficiente para mejorar su comprensión de los problemas pediátricos y de las decisiones clínicas más importantes, permitiéndoles adquirir unos conocimientos básicos del proceso patológico de cada enfermedad particular y elaborar un enfoque clínico ante el caso de cada niño en singular. Además, la relativa brevedad del texto permite asimilarlo durante la duración habitual de un curso de pediatría.
