La conspiración de los Sargentos: fue develada en la segunda quincena de agosto de 1959 dentro de la Base Aérea de San Isidro, sede de la hoy Fuerza Aérea Dominicana. Los conjurados tenían el propósito de matar al dictador Rafael Trujillo Molina y poner fin a su régimen represivo. Sus integrantes fueron cruelmente torturados en la cárcel ubicada en el kilómetro 9 de la Carretera Mella y posteriormente asesinados por orden de Ramfis Trujillo. Sus principales cabecillas eran los sargentos: Rafael Román Vargas, Ulises Jáquez Bencosme, Dalmiro Adames Moquete y Víctor Manuel Espinosa. Existe la version de que en total 22 de ellos fueron asesinados y sus cuerpos lanzados al mar. Nunca la posteridad les ha reconocido su sacrificio en aras de la libertad de nuestro pueblo. |
