En esta obra palpita el espíritu de Tomás de Iriarte. Fiel dictamen de enseñar deleitando, pretende, y es justo decir que logra y con éxito, elaborar lo que se denomina un tratado de ética literaria. Utiliza el didactismo inherente a la fábula para ir desgranando los preceptos que debe reunir cualquier escrito, las características no meramente literarias que deben poseer los autores, las aptitudes de los críticos y el discernimiento de los lectores. Cada una de las fábulas está elaborada bajo los cánones neoclásicos que él mismo acata y propugna, rechazando todo elemento barroco. El resultado es una perfecta conjunción entre el más depurado estilo literario y el didactismo. |
