Escrita con un estilo seco, conciso, vibrante, con una tensión que va en aumento, El túnel es una historia de amor, obsesión, celos y muerte, en la que el enamorado, el narrador, un conocido pintor, mata a la joven de la que enamora. Que nadie crea que le he estropeado la novela, pues ésta arranca así: Bastará decir que soy Juan Pablo Castel, el pintor que mató a María Iribarne. Desde el primer instante Sábato envuelve con precisión e imparcialidad propias del método científico la descripción de un volcán interior a punto de entrar en erupción. En su espantoso itinerario, las dudas del protagonista expresadas en pensamientos lógicos dan incesantes vueltas y revueltas en busca de la verdad o la normalidad, hasta desaparecer por un sumidero: Castel, que se creía un superhombre, descubrirá que también él es mezquino, sucio y pérfido. |
